The Eurodiet! - Low-Carb Back in the UK?

The controlled carb approach lessened in popularity around 2003. I don’t want to go in to what I think was the cause of this but nevertheless many people around the world who need to lose or maintain their weight are still reaping the rewards of this nutritional approach. I recently wrote an article about how people can lose weight and keep it off and was surprised to see an article in a magazine that was almost a CARBon copy of it just this week (c’mon, it was asking for it ;) ). Apparently, this new diet is about to take the UK by storm, we’ll have to wait and see.

Old Knowledge in New Clothes?

My Partner Tracy was thumbing through an issue of ‘New!’ magazine when she said, “hey, look at this.” As anything diet related interests me, I was intrigued. After a few sentences I could it was obvious that this wasn’t another low-fat or low-calorie diet of some description. Paragraph three has this to say:

“The Euro-diet weight-loss programme was developed in France and has been whipping women into shape on the Continent with its popular tailored programme for the last 15 years. Users follow a personalised diet of up to four phases and have regular follow-ups with specially trained professionals..”

It goes onto to say that the first phase lasts 14 days and is quite low in carbohydrate. Women are promised a drop in dress size and better skin tone thanks to the emphasis on eating high-quality protein. As you progress through the phases you gradually increase the amount of carbs you can eat. Later, the article states:

The plan’s emphasis is on “Ketosis”, when the body burns unwanted fat but keeps hold of lean muscle mass. Think Jennifer Aniston.

I know I’ve heard all this before somewhere. In fact it sounds exactly like the Atkins diet or the South Beach diet. So what’s the difference? Well, after speaking to Sally and Charlotte from Eurodiet, the difference is that by following this programme you get access to health professionals 7 days a week. Also, there is the convenience factor. You can lose weight with the low-carb approach without all the cooking (I personally don’t mind the cooking though) as Eurodiet has a variety of snacks and ready meals to be enjoyed. They do, however, provide some recipes on their site for later phases of the diet.

Would it Work?

Sure it would. I have no doubt about that. However you could just pick the low-carb method of your choice from this article, buy a book on it and just do it. The choice is yours. I think either method will work wonders for you. Obviously if you live a busy lifestyle, you might prefer to be able to grab a bite on-the-go. Anyway, if you’re curious and would like a little peek, here’s their website - Eurodiet.
